Pregnancy Chiropractic in Guilford & Hamden
The first question everyone asks about chiropractic during pregnancy is “How safe is it?” We’re happy to let you know that not only is it incredibly safe, but effective, gentle, and best of all-completely natural.
Chiropractic Can Help Issues Related To:
- Breech/transverse malpositioning of baby
- Sciatica associated with positioning
- Rib and upper back pain associated with a growing belly
- Round ligament pain
- Headaches associated with pregnancy
- Sacrum instability associated with looser ligaments during pregnancy
Getting to know each patient is very important. During your first visit, we discuss your medical history, including any past pregnancies. This helps with our assessment. We also ask about your pregnancy goals, such as having a natural childbirth.
After a thorough physical examination, and the adjustment using the Webster Technique, we discuss your care plan, which varies according to your needs. Dr. Victoria will give you a handout that details the process and outlines all services involved and available to you. If you have any questions, Dr. Victoria will be happy to answer them.
Pregnancy chiropractic. and specifically the Webster technique, works on the structures of the pelvis. The baby is not touched at any point. Back to Balance Chiropractic & Family Wellness receives many referrals from obstetricians, midwives, doulas and other birth professionals for our services.
Making adjustments to the pelvis can relieve some of the discomfort that accompanies pregnancy. It helps with reflux by creating extra space for the baby. Other issues that can benefit from adjustment are headaches, back, chest and neck pain, sciatica and tight hip muscles.
Another condition we often see is when the baby is in a breech position. By aligning the mother’s pelvis and subsequently the spine, the baby is able to move into the most ideal position. Please note that it can take from 1-10 adjustments for a breech baby to get into the correct position for birth.
Chiropractic also can help a mom-to-be have a more comfortable pregnancy. Her labor and delivery are usually shorter and easier due to chiropractic care.
Back to Balance Chiropractic & Family Wellness also has a statewide network of prenatal and postnatal resources to address any needs the patient may have. We go over and above to provide you with the best care possible.
When should I start receiving chiropractic care?
While chiropractic can be beneficial at every stage of pregnancy we recommend that you come in at the beginning of your pregnancy. By doing so you can enjoy a more comfortable pregnancy.
It will vary depending on what needs to be done. For example, if a patient comes in at 38 weeks and their baby is in the breech position, we will have more success if the patient comes in every day for a week versus if we see them twice over the next two weeks.
Yes, we use the Webster Technique which is different from other chiropractic methods. It affects the bony ligaments and muscular structures of the pelvis. This technique is typically gentler than “regular” adjustments.
Yes, we use comfortable pregnancy pillows that enable Mom to lie on her belly all the way up through her due date. We have a trimester 1 pillow, a trimester 2 pillow and when you put them together it’s a trimester 3 pillow. We find that moms-to-be are thrilled that they’re able to lie facedown when getting adjusted!
Yes, we have a network of OBs, doulas, midwives, lactation consultations and others. We also can refer you to experts who can help you with baby-wearing, proper car seat placement and more.
